Rejection of Subic Bay Treaty
Hooray for McDonnell Douglas. The juxtaposition of the front page photo (Sept. 16) of their C-17 transport first flight and the story about the Philippines Senate rejection of the Subic Bay Naval Base is fitting. While this is a naval base, the possible closing of last military outpost in Southeast Asia and the volcanic eruption at Clark are additional vindication to build the C-17. Its use of short runways allows it, if required, to land in nearby countries.
