CAMARILLO : City Adopts Rebates for Low-Flow Toilets
Residents of Camarillo will be eligible for a $100 rebate if they install ultra-low flow toilets in their homes, under a water-conservation plan approved Wednesday by the Camarillo City Council.
The two-year rebate program, conducted by the Calleguas Municipal Water District, offers users of wasteful plumbing fixtures an incentive to replace them.
The city will pay about $40 for each retrofitted toilet, with the remainder to be paid by Calleguas and the Metropolitan Water District.
The city also agreed to study whether it should waive a $25 inspection fee usually required when a new toilet is installed.
Low-flow toilets, which use 1.6 gallons of water per flush, can save the average single-family household 50 gallons of water a day. If 5,000 toilets are replaced in the rebate program, city residents would save more than $25,000 worth of water each year, according to estimates by Calleguas.
