COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : USC : Traveler Will Always Have a Home

Share

Renovation plans for the Coliseum will eliminate the track but will include running room for Traveler, the white horse that has served as USC’s mascot for 30 years.

“That has been taken into consideration,” USC Athletic Director Mike McGee said. “If it’s got television capacity on the sideline, it’s got enough room for Traveler. Traveler is part of the program and is going to remain so, believe me--or I’d be lynched.”

USC’s first game in the renovated Coliseum, barring construction delays, is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 3, 1994, against Washington.

Trojan Coach Larry Smith expected more from his special teams.

“We’re not getting any big plays out of our punt-return and punt-block (teams),” said Smith, whose team plays Oregon Saturday night at Eugene, Ore. “After three games, I would have figured we’d have blocked at least one punt and returned at least one punt for significant yardage, and we’ve done neither.”
