‘Doors,’ ‘Cyrano’ Top the List of Releases

This week’s new releases include:

“The Doors” (LIVE, $92.95, R). Oliver Stone’s view of rock legend Jim Morrison, starring Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan.

“Cyrano de Bergerac” (Orion, no list price, R). Latest version of the classic about the big-nosed poet and his love for Roxanne, starring Gerard Depardieu.

“Nothing but Trouble” (Warner, $92.99, PG-13). Horror-comedy about a very strange small town, starring Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Candy and Demi Moore.

Vintage Video: A bonanza of foreign classics from MGM/UA ($19.98 each) include five Francois Truffaut films: “The Bride Wore Black,” “Mississippi Mermaid,” “The Wild Child,” “The Story of Adele H.” and “Small Change.” Also: “Fellini’s Roma,” “The Music Lovers,” “Veronika Voss” and “The Draughtsman’s Contract.”

Other Cassettes: “The Thorn Birds” (Warner, $199.92). The highly rated 1983 TV adaptation of Colleen McCullough’s novel about forbidden love between a priest and an Australian woman, starring Richard Chamberlain, Rachel Ward and Barbara Stanwyck, in a four-cassette set.

“The Insight Series” (RCA/Columbia, $4.95 each). Five 25-minute tapes offering information for friends and families of the visually impaired. Hosts include Robert Stack, Charlton Heston and Sidney Poitier.

“Newton’s Apple” (PBS, $14.95 each). Five hour-long episodes of the superb science-made-simple series.
