I was interested to read your article (Sept. 1) about authors’ photos, but for another reason.
Many authors go to a lot of expense to have photos taken for a book jacket. However, I find upon getting books from the library that librarians invariably place white paper over the photos in order to have a place to mark the date the book is due.
As there is always other space on the jacket, the obliteration of the author’s looks is completely unnecessary, especially when I so often want to see what a writer looks like.
This is a nasty, thoughtless habit, probably all across the country.
