Border Patrol Doing Right Thing to Curb Influx
Regarding the immigration raids in Orange (“Immigration Raids Should Stop, Latino Activists Insist,” Sept. 21): Mary Ellen Martinet, an attorney for (the Latino rights group) Hermandad stated that Latinos have been bothered by the threat of immigration raids in their communities for years. She also stated: “But when they start going into the residences, it’s even worse. That’s your castle.” Is she implying that illegal immigrants, who are blatantly breaking U.S. law by living here, should be immune from arrest at their residences, as opposed to other lawbreaking individuals? Why should they be allotted this privilege?
Furthermore, critics of the raids contend that code enforcement officials should not have cooperated with immigration officials during the raids. What is wrong with that? Law enforcement agencies often cooperate in sting operations to apprehend criminals. I am fed up with those who believe that illegal immigrants are above the law and should not be treated as the criminals that they are.
