The Issues Behind the Affordable Housing Crunch in Southern California

Share

Christine M. Diemer’s Commentary, “Fighting O.C.’s Double Whammy Against Low-Cost Housing” (Sept. 22) certainly contributes to raising the awareness level of citizens of Orange County to the critical need of providing more low-income, affordable housing for the county. The private building housing sector, with the cooperation of government at all levels, can do much more.

Ms. Diemer fails to mention the role of the nonprofit building and management sector. Here in Orange County, the Orange County Community Housing Corp. has been doing great work for the past 14 years providing low-income, permanent, affordable housing for those in need. The corporation has more than 12 projects serving more than 500 people.

The need is so great that all sectors in housing should work together, whether profit, nonprofit or government.
