Trash-to-Energy Plant

Evelyn Alemanni made a number of assumptions that were incorrect (Letters to The Times, Aug. 18) regarding the proposed transfer station for Vista and the proposed trash-to-energy plant for San Marcos.
She stated that “members of the Vista Women’s Club . . . were proudly sporting YIMBY (Yes In My Back Yard) placards to demonstrate their support for the proposed incinerator. . . .” This is false. Our club members never wore YIMBY placards, as our back yard really doesn’t extend into San Marcos.
She also comments on the drive to obtain signatures of citizens in Vista against a transfer station, implying that we are joining in that effort. This, too, is false. We have taken no position for or against the transfer station.
We still support the concept of trash-to-energy plants that recycle, and predict an affirmative vote by the Board of Supervisors on Phase I (the recycling plant) to be recorded very soon. Anyone who purchased homes in the area of a landfill should have given more thought to truck traffic before buying there, instead of whining for sympathy now.
