Wilson’s Veto of Gay Job Bias Bill
By vetoing AB 101, Gov. Pete Wilson not only betrayed the gay and lesbian community, he betrayed the trust of everyone (front page, Sept. 30). While campaigning, he publicly voiced his support to extend equal rights protection to gays and lesbians. Yet, when given the opportunity to back his words with action, he buckles under pressure from the vocal hatemongers in the right wing.
Indeed, what a sad commentary it is when our governor will throw his convictions out the window simply for the sake of political advantage. Perhaps Wilson needs to be reminded that doing the right thing is not always politically expedient but is required of persons of good conscience. I truly wonder how he sleeps at night.
