Not St. Tropez

Share

I was very disappointed with the article “No Dismantling of Mykonos Party,” Sept. 8, as I found it incredibly misleading. I had a chance to live in Greece between 1982-85. I returned to Mykonos in 1987. In no way was it the same and for that reason I question the knowledge of the writers.

It is definitely not the St. Tropez of Greece. We were shocked to find the beaches dirty, the quality of food had greatly deteriorated and fast-food stands had replaced cute boutiques and lovely bars that played classical music. Backpackers had taken over.

The saddest part of traveling to the Greek Islands during July and August isn’t just the crowds, but the islanders become overwhelmed and it is sometimes exhibited in the rudeness that I have seen displayed over the years. So my advice is to see Greece in May, June or September and avoid Mykonos if you are expecting it to be like (St. Tropez).
