IBM and Compaq Computer Unveil Computers: IBM unveiled personal computers for the home with more power and capacity to expand, while Compaq Computer Corp. launched a portable color computer. The newest IBM computers will offer, among other things, two megabytes of random access memory expandable to six megabytes, Disk Operating System 4.01, an IBM mouse and a built-in 2,400 bits-per-second modem, IBM said. Compaq said its new Portable 486c Personal Computer will be based on Intel’s most powerful microprocessor. It will have quick access to a palette of more than 4,000 colors, 256 which can be used at the same time, the company said.
