Thick Black Smog Covers Portions of Southwestern Iran
Associated Press
NICOSIA, Cyprus —
Thick black smog covered part of southwestern Iran Friday, blocking sunlight from reaching much of Ilam province, Tehran Radio reported.
The broadcast monitored in Nicosia, said the smog first appeared in the southern end of the province and was moving in a northerly direction.
It did not report its cause. But smoke billowing from burning oil wells in Kuwait and Iraq has been responsible for thick smog and black rain in many parts of the region, including Iran.
