Burroughs Jr. High

In response to “By Junior High, Bruised Hopes Need Critical Care,” Commentary, Oct. 1: How much time did Linda Blandford spend at John Burroughs Junior High? An hour or less? It seems so because otherwise she would never have written such a misleading article!

Our school is not just made up of Albert Einsteins and unmotivated morons! I am gifted magnet and so are many of my friends, but we don’t consider ourselves “brilliant.” Hard-working yes, but then again a lot of non-magnet students are too! This school is composed of many different kinds of people and we refuse to be classified as “ganging, noisy young people: foul-mouthed beyond the ear of authority.” Yes, we’re loud, but we’ve realized that’s the only way to be heard, and true, some of us use curse words, but don’t blame everyone for the faults of a few.

I have nothing against Mr. Lookinland or Ms. Muecke, but I feel that the article should have mentioned other hard-working, dedicated teachers who make good role models too.
