Secretary of State James A. Baker III found himself cooling his heels at a refueling stop for his plane Saturday night after damage was found on a rotor blade in one of the engines.

Baker was heading home from an apparently successful diplomatic mission to the Middle East.

He spent a couple of hours chatting with reporters and staff members in an airport lounge and then returned to the plane to sleep while the crew tried to fix the chipped blade by filing it down. Repairs took about four hours.
