Smoky Engine Scrubs Boston-Detroit Flight

BOSTON —
A Northwest Airlines 727 bound from Boston to Detroit Monday morning made an emergency landing at Logan International Airport after the control tower reported smoke coming from an engine as the plane took off.
The plane returned safely to the terminal and passengers were transferred to another flight. An airline spokeswoman said the smoke was caused by a malfunctioning valve, which was replaced.
