Moscow Mugging: Former Miss America Bess Myerson was attacked earlier this month in a Moscow airport by a band of purse-snatchers who knocked her to the floor, breaking her right leg in three places. In a Manhattan hospital, the 66-year-old Myerson said muggers grabbed her shoulder bag but the strap snagged on her clothing. The pull spun her around and sent her crashing to the floor. The band fled empty-handed. Meyerson was crowned Miss America in 1945.

No A for Effort: A New Jersey Marine called to the Gulf War is battling a professor who refuses to give him an A grade. A recent state law says James Lloyd and other students can take as their final grade whatever grade they had when they were called up. So Lloyd wants the A he had in Barbara Chasin’s sociology class at Montclair State College in Newark. But Chasin says the state can’t dictate grades, so Lloyd gets an incomplete. He says he’ll sue.

Millie’s Fan Club: What’s it like living in the White House? How difficult is it to give birth to six offspring at once? Such are the questions these days from third-graders in North Liberty, Ind., to Millie, the White House dog. Has Millie written back? Yes, so to speak: The students have received post cards with Millie’s paw print.

It’s the Devil: Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart, seen a second time in the presence of a prostitute, told his New Orleans flock Sunday that “demon spirits” made him do it. “Somebody may ask the question: ‘Well, why didn’t you go for help?’. . . . That’s where I was wrong. But before you judge me, try to put yourself in my shoes.” Swaggart was pulled over Oct. 11 for a traffic violation in Indio. In the car was a woman who said she was a prostitute and that Swaggart had picked her up and asked her for sex.
