Company Gets FDA Approval for Test Kit: Hycor Biomedical Inc. said it has received Food and Drug Administration approval to market a test kit that can detect H. pylori antibodies through blood samples. The Garden Grove company said research indicates a close relationship between the presence of the H. pylori organism and ulcers. Other studies have shown a relationship between this organism and stomach cancer. Currently, the presence of H. pylori can be diagnosed by putting a tube through a patient’s mouth and taking a biopsy of the patient’s stomach, which is an expensive and uncomfortable procedure for patients. Hycor will distribute the test kit, called Pyloragen, to clinical laboratories nationwide through Baxter Scientific Products in Chicago and Curtin Matheson Scientific in Houston.
