Overture to Awakening: The theme from “Growing Pains” seemed to strike a responsive chord in a 27-year-old woman who started awakening from a coma when the show was playing on the television set in her hospital room. Janet Richardson of Overland Park, Kan., had been unresponsive for five days after falling from a bunk bed and hitting her head. Her sister said that the sound of “Growing Pains” “woke her up” and “was the first sign that her memory was coming back.” When cast members heard of the incident, they sent her a jacket stitched with their autographs.
