San Gabriel : Condo Measure Rejected

Share

The City Council has rejected an emergency ordinance that would have placed immediate special regulations on commercial condominiums.

The 3-2 vote in favor of the measure fell short of the four-fifths majority needed to pass emergency ordinances. It would have required, among other things, that each unit in a commercial condominium be at least 2,500 square feet in size.

While considering the city’s first proposed commercial condominium project, the Planning Commission had been pushing the council to adopt special regulations, such as minimum size standards to ensure that only large, more fiscally secure businesses take part in such ventures.

The commission turned down the project last week.

The proposed ordinance is to follow its normal route, first going before the commission for public hearings before returning to the council.
