OXNARD : Schools’ Enrollment Less Than Expected

Enrollment in the Oxnard Union High School District fell short of projections this year, which could mean a budget shortfall of about $170,000, district officials said Wednesday.
Business Manager Robert Brown said budget revisions would have to be made sometime in November to account for the difference.
As of Oct. 16, the district’s enrollment was 11,695, about 50 students shy of the 1991-92 projections. Actual enrollment, however, was up 1.6% from a year ago. It just didn’t grow as much as budget planners had projected, Brown said.
The size of the student body exceeded the projected numbers at Channel Islands, Rio Mesa and Frontier high schools, but fell below expectations at Adolfo Camarillo, Hueneme and Oxnard.
As for ethnic breakdown, 53.1% of the district’s students are Latino, 31.6% are white, 5% are black and the remainder are Filipino, Asian, American Indians and Pacific Islanders.
