CAMARILLO : Council Delays Vote on Spanish Hills

Share

The Camarillo City Council gave new life to a bid by the Spanish Hills Development Co. to add 50 condominiums to its west Camarillo housing project by agreeing to postpone a decision until June.

Two weeks ago, the council rejected the developer’s request to allow medium-density housing on a 5.4-acre parcel north of Crestview Avenue near the clubhouse of a proposed golf course.

But a lobbying effort by the developer prompted the council to reconsider the request.

“I would like to see what they’ve done to the project by June,” said Councilman Mike Morgan, who led opposition to the proposal two weeks ago but introduced the motion to reconsider.

When it was initially approved, the Spanish Hills project contained 157 single-family houses and 60 condominiums lining a golf course.

Under Camarillo’s growth management plan, if the council approves the request for more condominiums, the developer would not be allowed to build the additional units until 1994.
