Hollywood : Landlord Is Sentenced

Share

A landlord has been sentenced to spend 30 days working on freeway cleanup crews after he admitted violating his probation by failing to repair dangerous conditions at his Hollywood apartment complex, City Atty. James K. Hahn said.

Jack Dardashti, 43, of the Wilshire District, also has until Nov. 19 to make repairs on the three-story, 60-unit apartment building at 830 N. Van Ness Ave. or face additional penalties, Hahn said. Also, Municipal Court Commissioner Gerald T. Richardson ordered Dardashti to pay $2,730 in investigative costs when sentencing him Oct. 16.

Dardashti has been on probation since Jan. 10, 1990, when he pleaded no contest to five slum violations at another apartment building, in the Wilshire District, in which he had an ownership interest, Hahn said. The city attorney said he filed the recent probation violation against Dardashti after city Slum Housing Task Force inspections in late June found dangerous fire doors, leaky plumbing and broken smoke detectors.
