New Storm May Bring More Rain Over the Weekend

Rain is expected by Saturday night, thanks to another storm passing through from the Gulf of Alaska, weather forecasters said.

“We can expect about one-half inch of rain (along the coast), and more in the mountains,” said Wilbur Shigehara, chief forecaster for the National Weather Service in San Diego.

The low-pressure system that has been present nearly all week will allow the storm into San Diego, he said.

Shigehara expects Saturday night’s rain to extend into Sunday, with a chance of some showers lingering until Monday.

Shigehara said high tides will be 6.9 feet through the weekend, and he cautioned boaters that the combination of high tides and storm have the potential to damage docked boats.

The surf, which is expected to be 2 to 3 feet, may swell an extra foot by Saturday night.

Highs along the coast today are expected to range from 66 to 70 degrees and should drop a few degrees Saturday and Sunday. In the inland valleys, today’s highs should be 68 to 75 but should drop a few degrees Saturday and Sunday.

Winds will kick up to 35 m.p.h. in the mountains and deserts Saturday night and Sunday, Shigehara said. After today’s high in the middle 50s, temperatures in the mountains will dip to highs in the 40s this weekend. The deserts will have highs of 82 to 88 today, dropping to 78 to 85 the rest of the weekend, Shigehara said.

Though rainfall is expected in the mountains, Shigehara does not expect any snow.
