Ronald Elliot Porter, charged with two counts of murder, will face a preliminary hearing Feb. 3.

Municipal Judge Howard H. Shore on Friday set the date of the hearing, which Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeff Dusek said will last at least three days.

Already convicted in another case involving the kidnaping and sexual assault of a San Diego-area prostitute, Porter is now charged with two counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder and three counts of rape with a foreign object.

Porter was arrested Sept. 17, the day he was supposed to be released on parole for the earlier crime.

The 44-year-old Escondido man is accused of murdering Carol Jane Gushrowski, an El Cajon mother of two whose body was found near Buckman Springs on July 22, 1986.

He also faces a murder charge in the death of Sandra Cwik, a 43-year-old transient from Florida, who was found dead on July 21, also near Buckman Springs.

Next year’s preliminary hearing will be held to determine if Porter should stand trial in Superior Court. In the meantime, he will be held without bail.
