Mahony’s Letter on Abortion

I too am weary. I’m weary of being judged by a group of men who promote opinions as truth in the name of religion. For a group of supposedly educated people who refuse to acknowledge or discuss birth control and premarital sex, Catholic clergy certainly are willing to give opinions about the results of those “sinful actions.”

I would like to know what statistical data Mahony used to determine that women use abortion mainly for birth control purposes. Or was it simply what he wants everyone to believe that so they too can pass judgment on women who make the choice to have an abortion. Only God is fit to judge.

Cardinal, the Bible is open to interpretation and interpretation eventually leads to opinion. The opinion of one person should not be forced upon others to believe as “truth.” If I am ever faced with the decision to end a pregnancy, I at least hope that choice is mine. I just wish people would fight for the unwanted children that already exist and those children who are impoverished and physically and emotionally abused.
