A 14-year-old Granada Hills boy returning from a high school homecoming party was burned to death Sunday when the car his sister was driving crashed into a pole in Northridge and burst into flames, authorities said.

Andrew Blatter was trapped in the rear seat when the fire erupted in the car after the 2:25 a.m. accident on Lassen Street near Tampa Avenue, police said. Andrew’s sister, Cherilynn, 17, escaped injury, Los Angeles Police Officer Charlton Jackson said.

The condition of a 17-year-old girl, also a passenger in the car, was unknown, Jackson said.

The accident occurred after Cherilynn Blatter fell asleep at the wheel, veered from the road and broadsided the pole, police said.

“The sister got her friend out of the front, but couldn’t get back to get her brother out,” Jackson said.

The teen-agers, who attend Alemany High School in Mission Hills, were returning from a high school homecoming party when the accident occurred, Jackson said.
