Gay Couples Having Babies

Share

In response to “2 Moms or 2 Dads--and a Baby,” by Scott Harris, Oct. 20:

Quotes from the article: “ . . . the gay and lesbian community as a whole feels . . . that they can raise a child just as well, if not better, than anyone else”; “many gay parents say having children simply represents a personal quest”; “you want to be a parent because you want to know what it’s like” ; “having children . . . is the ultimate liberation of a gay person”; “ . . . children have brought greater acceptance from relatives, neighbors and people they meet at the PTA . . . “; “ . . . the greatest achievement of my life. . . .”

All these seem to point to the egotism, to the personal needs of the parents; the welfare, happiness, mental health of the child is secondary, if it is considered at all.

In an already crowded world, self-satisfaction is a poor reason to manufacture children.
