COUNTYWIDE : Food Share Inc. to Get $950,000 Grant
A bill that will provide Food Share Inc. of Oxnard with a $950,000 federal grant has been signed by President Bush, Rep. Robert J. Lagomarsino (R-Ventura) said Tuesday.
The nonprofit agency will use the money to buy a warehouse and equipment needed to distribute food to Ventura County’s homeless and poor.
Speaking at a news conference earlier this month, Lagomarsino, who sponsored the bill, said it would “go a long way toward eliminating hunger in the county.”
Food Share Executive Director Jewel Pedi said the grant will “free up some money spent on bills” and allow her to implement a plan to collect hot food from area restaurants.
“We will get another source of food,” said Pedi, who says the 13-year-old organization feeds about 90,000 people a month.
