Savings Bond Interest Falls: U.S. savings bonds will earn 6.38% interest through April 30, down from 6.57% the past six months, the Treasury Department said. Savings bonds rates are changed each May 1 and Nov. 1 to reflect open-market rates. The new rate is 85% of the average market yield on five-year Treasury securities, which have averaged 7.5% since May 1.
