CYPRESS : City Will Raise Hotel Tax to 10%
- Share via
Searching for funds to bolster the city’s coffers, the City Council voted unanimously last week to raise the hotel bed tax.
The tax charged to hotel customers staying in Cypress was raised from 8% to 10%. Finance Director Richard Storey said the rate is similar to those charged in surrounding cities, including Fullerton and Buena Park.
Raising the tax is one of several measures the council has considered to bolster city revenue, which fell about $500,000 short of expected expenditures when the budget was passed earlier this year.
The increased hotel tax is expected to generate $100,000 a year for the general fund.
