Advice for Smaller Firms: Alvin B. Phillips, founder of Western Digital Corp., has started a consulting business in Newport Beach for small and medium-size technology companies.

Phillips said he mainly offers management services to technology companies with sales of less than $50 million. Much of the advice he gives relates to “crisis management,” Phillips said.

After leaving Western Digital in 1977, Phillips went on to hold executive positions at American Telecommunications in El Monte and Micro General, a postage-machine manufacturer in Santa Ana.
