Varco International Inc.: The Orange manufacturer of oil and gas well drilling equipment said that its third-quarter earnings were up 81%, to $3.8 million, or 12 cents per share, from $2.1 million, or 8 cents per share, for the like period in 1990. Revenue rose 56%, to $56.8 million from $36.5 million. For the nine-month period ended Sept. 30, earnings totaled $10.5 million, or 34 cents per share, on revenue of $159.2 million. For the comparable period in 1990, the company earned $5.3 million, or 20 cents per share, on revenue of $87.5 million.
