EPA Orders Company to Look for Toxic Leaks
An El Monte company has been ordered by the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate alleged contamination on its property that may have seeped into San Gabriel Valley ground water, the federal agency said Wednesday.
Precision Coil Spring Co., at 10117 Rose St., which manufactures springs and coils for aircraft and nuclear systems, received the order after failing to comply with several requests by the EPA and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board to produce an environmental report, officials said.
A company attorney denied that the firm failed to cooperate with the agencies and blamed the situation on miscommunication. The company will contest the federal order, the lawyer said.
