Ice Cube: Profound as He Wants to Be

Share

Last Sunday’s Calendar has the makings of a collector’s item. Ageless Cher gracing the cover, captured by an unprecedented photographic blend of romantic art and subtle eroticism, alone made it thus.

But Ice Cube, who apparently won’t melt during his moment in the sun, was profound, socially redeeming and exemplary (“Outrageous as He Wants to Be,” by Dennis Hunt).

I identify with him, not just racially and ethnically, but because we share a tenacity in not compromising principles to pursue the materialistic, adulatory “American Dream.” Despite that, he is near the pinnacle of fame and fortune. What a difference three decades make.

I felt better after reading Hunt’s interview with him. My heroes are people like Ice Cube, who indicates that if “the big white folks” cut off the waterworks, he will try to dig his own well. He refuses to sell his soul for 30 pieces of silver.
