Ice Cube: Profound as He Wants to Be

Share

What thoughts entered people’s minds as they read about the excessively chauvinistic African-American rapper Ice Cube? Were they of praise, reverence, shock or fear? I myself felt deep regret.

As a 15-year-old Asian, I have encountered prejudice as well, but I feel deep sorrow for the thousands of young African-Americans who worship this radical and his preaching that the only way to counter hatred and violence is through more hatred and violence, not through conciliatory measures.

His popularity is augmented as rock critics applaud his outspokenness and thus aid in his elevation as an African-American leader. African-Americans must realize that their support of such a man (who says that “if things don’t get better (with the Koreans), we’re just going to burn their stores down”) leads them nowhere.
