La Verne : Parks Dept. Renamed Again
After changing the name of the Parks and Human Services Department last month to the Parks and Recreation Department, the City Council on Monday changed the name again--to the Parks and Community Services Department.
In October, department head Bill Aguire recommended Parks and Community Resources, but the council thought that was too vague and chose Parks and Recreation.
However, in his report Monday, City Manager Martin R. Lomeli strongly recommended that the council reconsider, saying that the department’s duties go beyond parks and recreational activities to include youth and senior programs, cultural programs, transportation and mental health services.
The council agreed, voting 4 to 0 in favor of the change, with Councilman Craig H. Walters absent.
