Supervisors’ Privatization Move Draws Criticism
Re “Supervisors OK 1st Step to Privatization,” Oct. 30: The article said Supervisors (Don R.) Roth and (Gaddi H.) Vasquez led other supervisors in enthusiastically supporting the contracting out of 56 government operations that cost taxpayers $81.1 million a year. There was no estimate as to how much the county could expect to save.
One wonders why the supervisors would lend their support to privatization with no idea of the savings to us taxpayers. I wonder what the blue-ribbon panel based its conclusion on.
Was the recommendation based on political considerations for the supervisors rather than monetary savings for us taxpayers?
