Pregnancy Police Need to Bust Myths

I read “Pregnancy Police” (Oct. 30) with great interest. I had my son two months ago and remember all the advice and warnings I got.

I willingly gave up things I enjoyed that might have caused harm to my baby or me, but I made those choices. When you become pregnant, you don’t lose your ability to make decisions.

Most women’s first concern is the well-being of their fetus, and if they are having an iced tea or smoking a cigarette, it is usually because their doctors have told them it was OK if used moderately.

Public information to dispel pregnancy myths and competent prenatal care make healthy babies and mothers. Nagging and punishing do not.
