U.S. Auto Makers Plan Joint Research: Expanding recent cooperative ventures, General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. announced a research and development partnership in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. The companies said the partnership will evaluate the feasibility of a uniform computer language in automotive engineering and design. Under the National Cooperative Research Act, the Big Three are already working together on electric-car batteries, clean-air technology, new-materials research and other areas.
