Racial Brawl Breaks Out at Pitchess Honor Rancho

Share

A confrontation between black and Latino inmates on Monday resulted in yet another racial brawl at Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Saugus, sheriff’s deputies said.

One inmate accused the other of stealing from him, and soon all 127 inmates in one dormitory were involved, said Deputy George Ducoulumbier. Deputies restored order five minutes after the brawl broke out at 8:27 p.m., Ducoulumbier said.

Several inmates were injured in the melee, but only one was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for a cut. After the incident, 60 prisoners were taken to the North County Correctional Facility in Lancaster for possible reassignment, Ducoulumbier said.

On Saturday night, 10 prisoners were injured in a fight at the facility over the use of pay phones. More than 100 inmates have been injured, some critically, in 10 racially motivated fights at the Pitchess facility this year.
