Chip Industry Barometer Rises: A key semiconductor industry indicator, the book-to-bill ratio, rebounded from its low of the year--0.94 in September--to 0.95 in October, the Semiconductor Industry Assn. said. October orders--or bookings--were $1,252.2 million, up 3.9% from September’s $1,205.2 million and 3.5% from October of 1990. Shipments--or billings--increased 2.5% to $1,319.9 million from September’s $1,287.2 million and were up 5% from October, 1990. The ratio is the percentage of industry orders versus shipments.
