Duarte : Council OKs Cable TV Site

Share

The City Council approved a facility use agreement designating the old city hall as the new site for the local public-access cable TV company. The agreement also provides $14,810 to renovate part of the building’s interior to make it usable for both the cable company and a Sheriff’s Department special unit that will share the space.

Duarte Public Access Inc., has been off the air since late September when school district officials asked the group to vacate a Duarte High School classroom where they had been operating for two years.

A proposed relocation to the city’s performing arts center proved unsuitable due to inadequate electrical wiring and poor acoustical properties.

Mary Somerlott, chairwoman of the Community Services Commission, said renovation of the old city hall, 1640 E. 3rd St., will take about a month. She said she expects the public-access channel to be back on the air by Christmas.
