* Tandon Corp.: The personal computer maker, citing a weak global economy and industrywide price cutting, reported a third-quarter loss of $35 million, or 55 cents per share. It also announced a restructuring program that includes layoffs.
A year earlier, the Moorpark-based company reported a profit of $3.2 million, or 5 cents per share.
Included in the loss for the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $25 million in reserves set aside for the restructuring.
The loss came on a 6% decline in revenue--to $92.7 million. A year earlier, Tandon earned $3.2 million on $98.3 million in revenue.
The PC maker, which derives about 75% of its revenue from European sales, said it was hurt by an unfavorable exchange rate.
The company said it has not decided how many employees will be laid off or the number of facilities that will be closed. “Over the next year, we will be examining all of our operations and all our current cost structures,” spokesman Mike Sanders said.
He added that some employees have been laid off the past few weeks, but he declined to give a number.
