OJAI : City Elections to Be Moved to November
- Share via
After weeks of debate, the Ojai City Council has decided to hold municipal elections in November, on the same day as statewide general elections.
The Ojai City Council voted 3 to 2 Tuesday to permanently move city elections to the first Tuesday in November in even-numbered years. Until now, city elections have been held on the second Tuesday in April. Ojai Mayor Jim Loebl and Councilman Robert McKinney voted against the change.
Consolidating the elections will increase voter participation, save the city about $9,000 a year and ease the workload for the city clerk’s office, Ojai City Manager Andy Belknap said.
The new election date also gives Loebl, McKinney, City Clerk Cyndi Reynolds and City Treasurer Boyd Ford seven-month extensions to their terms.
