Even After the Shock, It’s Hard to Get Used to Absence of Magic

Share

At sobering moments such as these, I always think back upon the words of the great diplomat, W. Averell Harriman, on Nov. 22, 1963. He was asked whether the nation would ever fully recover from the blow of President Kennedy’s assassination, and what the future held for us all. He said: “We shall surely laugh again, but we will never again be young.”

I believe, because Magic Johnson came our way, that we can now say: We shall surely laugh again, and we will always be young.
