It is a cliche to call the offerings of Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco Band a musical gumbo.

But what else do you call this mixture of Cajun music, blues, reggae, country and Western, rock ‘n’ roll and the polka played on the accordion, fiddle, triangle, washboard, bass and drums?

Ida Guillory, 63, learned music growing up in rural Louisiana and East Texas. She moved to San Francisco, worked as a school bus driver and raised a family. Then, she started playing the music of her youth at community gatherings.

A newspaper writer who heard her at a church dance dubbed her Queen Ida, and her musical career was launched. In 1983, she won a Grammy for her album, “Queen Ida on Tour.”

She has made eight albums and toured the world with her band, which at various times has included her son, Myrick (Freeze) Guillory, and two brothers, Wilbert Lewis and Al Rapone.

Queen Ida plays the button accordion and delivers vocals that range from tough-talking blues to gentle laments, with lots of happy-go-lucky Cajun harmonies in between.

Her current album is “Cookin’ with Queen Ida.” She also has published a cookbook of the same name containing Creole recipes.

Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco Band will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Bridges Auditorium at the Claremont Colleges. Tickets are $15 to $26.
