California IN BRIEF : LAKE TAHOE : Snowstorm Causes Delays, Accidents
Another intense storm produced major headaches for motorists on highways in the Lake Tahoe area, but the snow was good news for ski resorts. John Qualls, Caltrans regional manager, said westbound motorists on Interstate 80 faced four-hour delays in getting over Donner Summit because of the heavy snow. Chains or snow tires were mandatory on most highways in the Tahoe area, including I-80, I-50 over Echo Summit and California 88 over Carson Pass. The National Weather Service said the storm had dumped up to six inches of snow at lake level and 18 inches at the higher elevations as of Sunday evening.
