SLIGHT COMEBACK: Stock watchers were relieved Monday when the market recovered somewhat following Friday’s tumble (D1). Locally, several Orange County stocks rallied. At the close of business Monday, 25 Orange County stocks were up, 40 were unchanged and 37 were down. . . . Friday’s victims included biotechnology stocks, but one, Viratek Inc. of Costa Mesa, which lost 16% on Friday, was unchanged Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial average was up 29.52 points Monday, or nearly a quarter of the 120 points lost Friday.
