Mazda Plans to Buy More U.S. Auto Parts: Moving to blunt the mounting protectionist sentiment in Washington, Mazda Motor Corp. said it plans to increase its purchases of U.S.-made auto parts and materials to about $2.2 billion by 1994, 47% above what it spent in 1990. The number includes parts to be used in assembling vehicles at Mazda’s plant in Flat Rock, Mich., and those imported for use in the company’s Japanese-built vehicles. In addition, Mazda said it plans spend about $75 million in 1994 on vehicles built in the United States by Ford Motor Co., which it will sell in Japan through the dealer network it operates jointly with Ford.
