A Super Send-Off for New Toshiba PC: Toshiba America’s computer division said its portable computers will be sold by Computer City SuperCenters, a chain of computer “super-stores” being established by Tandy Corp. The chain, which opened seven stores nationwide this month, will sell Toshiba’s lightweight laptop and notebook computers, which are light enough to be carried and used while traveling. Tom Scott, vice president of sales for the division, said the company is trying to reach more consumers and small businesses by expanding its distribution beyond traditional computer dealers. So-called “super-stores” are typically large, warehouse-type stores that sell high volumes of computers. Tandy plans to open 50 Computer City stores in the next few years.
